Oklahoma Lands 2023 Four-Star EDGE Colton Vasek Over Texas

There wasn’t a team in the country that was hotter on the recruiting trail than Oklahoma in the month of July, and it appears that trend has continued into the month of August as the Sooners landed 2023 EDGE rusher Colton Vasek.

Ranked as a four-star EDGE by all major recruiting sites, Vasek is listed as the No. 7 player at his position and No. 76 overall player in the 2023 class by Rivals.com.

At 6-6, 230 pounds, Vasek held offers from 39 Division-I programs including teams like Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, and USC, but this battle came down to the teams on either side of the Red River.

Being a native of Austin, Texas, and a Longhorns’ legacy, it appeared for months that Vasek was destined to land with UT. Then, Vasek spent the weekend in Norman for the “Party at the Palace” and everything changed.

Whatever Brent Venables and Miguel Chavis pitched to Vasek clearly landed, as flopping from Texas to OU is quite the jump, especially when Vasek’s father, Brian, played defensive end for the Longhorns from 1991-1995.

With Vasek’s commitment, Oklahoma now sits at No. 6 nationally in the 2023 recruiting rankings, just one spot behind the Longhorns. With several big-name recruits still on the board for the Sooners, a jump into the top five seems imminent and a run at a top three class looks like a real possibility as Oklahoma landed five silent commits over the weekend, with Vasek’s being the first to go public.
