LSU Trolls Baylor Ahead of Final Four in Dallas

As a three-seed, the LSU Tigers are one of the nation’s Final Four teams this weekend in Dallas, and they were shy about letting one school in particular know that. In what could only be seen as a troll move, the Tigers’ team account sent out a tweet referencing Baylor, who was the former home of head coach Kim Mulkey.

“Be on the lookout for billboards in Dallas and Waco!” it said.

Of course, Dallas is only 94 miles from Waco, but it’s hard to see this as anything other than what it surely was: a dig at the Bears. LSU could have referenced any other number of cities in the Lone Star State and instead chose Waco, the home of Baylor.

Speaking of Baylor, it won the national championship three times while Mulkey was on campus. The first of those came in 2005, with the Bears also taking down the crown in 2012 and 2019. Mulkey left for Baton Rouge after the Bears’ last Elite Eight appearance in 2021.

Nicki Collen promptly took over and led the Bears to the Big 12 Championship in 2021-22, as they compiled a 28-7 record and 15-3 mark in league play. A No. 2 seed, the Bears were ousted by No. 10 seed South Dakota in the Round of 32.

This just concluded season, Baylor finished with a 20-13 record, including a 10-8 mark in Big 12 play. An 11-seed this time around, its campaign came to an end with a 77-58 loss to No. 6 seed UConn in Storrs, Conn.

As for Mulkey and the Tigers, they’ll take on No. 1 seed Virginia Tech this weekend, with a trip to the national championship game on the line. Tip off is set for 6 p.m. CT Friday, with the winner taking on the winner of the later game between No. 1 seed South Carolina and No. 2 seed Iowa.
