Iowa State, Baylor Softball Game in Lightning Delay

In an effort to avoid any weather issues headed into Thursday’s Big 12 Softball Tournament, each game was moved up two hours. While the effort helped in the beginning of the game, lightning made an appearance following the conclusion of the fifth inning resulting in a lightning delay.

The Iowa State Cyclones and the Baylor Bears square off in the first round of the Big 12 Softball Tournament but unfortunately for both squads it looks like the weather is going to play a part in resuming play.

The delay comes at a key time in the matchup as the Cyclones have been on a tear to start off the tournament. Cyclones Pitcher Ellie Spelhaug is through five innings on a no-hitter to go alongside four strikeouts in the game.

With hits continuing to pile for Iowa State, the weather delay comes at a crucial time for the Bears as they desperately need to find a way to get on the board. With both teams seeking a second-round matchup with Patty Gasso and the Oklahoma Sooners, the sixth and seventh innings will be crucial to see who is up to task.

Weather continues to be an issue in Omaha as the forecast doesn’t look great going forward, but with the Cyclones dominating the Bears, maybe a change in the forecast could be a good thing.
