Create-A-Bowl: The 23 Flavors Dr. Pepper Classic

The Cincinnati Bearcats dance team stands for the national anthem ahead of the College Football Playoff semifinal game between the Cincinnati Bearcats and the Alabama Crimson Tide at the 86th Cotton Bowl Classic, Friday, Dec. 31, 2021, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The best time of the year is here. With Christmas and bowl season on the horizon, is there a better time to be a college football fan? There are a total of 43 bowl games this season and each one is unique in its own way.

Of course, some are more well-known than others and the sponsors change almost every year. But have you ever wondered what it would be like to create your own bowl game? Well, I let my imagination take over for the day so I could make my own bowl game.

From a sponsor to location, take this magical journey with me as I tell you about the vision I had for my own custom bowl game.

Sponsor: Dr. Pepper

I know that Dr. Pepper already is one of the sponsors for college football but why don’t they have their own bowl game? I feel like Dr. Pepper and College football go hand in hand so why not have a Dr. Pepper Bowl? To me, it is the best soda for a college football Saturday (if you aren’t drinking). It’s absolutely delicious and when those 23 flavors hit your lips, you don’t want to put it down.

Location: AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas

Since I picked Dr. Pepper to sponsor my bowl game, I had no choice but to keep this game in the Lone Star State. After all, Dr. Pepper was invented in the state of Texas back in 1885 by Charles Alderton in Waco, which is just 100 miles south of Arlington. The best soda in Texas deserves the best football stadium in Texas and I couldn’t think of one better than Jerry World.

The good thing about Arlington is that it is smack dab in the middle of Dallas and Fort Worth. If you are staying in the area, you could literally go to either city and it wouldn’t take you too long at all. Plus, AT&T Stadium is located in a growing area. Next to the stadium is Globe Life Field (home of the Texas Rangers) and Texas Live!, which is a multi-level entertainment venue filled with live music, great food, and fantastic drinks. There is even a hotel connected, so you could literally walk to the game if you wanted to.

Conference Affiliations: Big 12 vs. SEC

Maybe I am biased here but there was no way I could leave out the Big 12 here. Dr. Pepper sponsored the Big 12 championship game earlier this month and it was only right to keep the Big 12 tie intact. While the Big Ten was considered, I wanted the Big 12 to go head-to-head with the SEC. It seems like anytime we can get a matchup between these two conferences it is always a fun time. Plus, the SEC has plenty of former Big 12 schools in their conference so it is possible we could see some old rivalries heat up in this bowl game.

Entertainment: Fansville Cast, Dr. Pepper Bath, and a Lifetime Supply

Dr. Pepper has some of the best commercials on TV in my opinion. The first thing I would do for this game is bring back the famous Larry Culpepper and let him do the coin toss. I would make him the official mascot for the game. Also, I would bring in the entire Dr. Pepper Fansville cast. I want them all on the sidelines, including Brian Bosworth dressed as the sheriff of Fansville himself.

Instead of a concert at halftime, I would take the winners of the Dr. Pepper halftime challenge for each game during conference championship weekend and have them compete to determine who the true champion is. The winner gets $100,000 (cash this time) and a lifetime supply of the best soda on Earth.

You’ve heard of Gatorade baths before, but have you ever heard of a Dr. Pepper bath? The winning coach will be dumped with an entire cooler of ice-cold Dr. Pepper.

Trophy: A Two-Foot Gemstone-Encrested Dr. Pepper Can

We’re going all out on this one. A two-football Dr. Pepper can cast in silver, and hollow in the middle so it’s not too heavy to lift. Then, the can will be heavily adorned with maroon ruby gemstones, to match the color of a Dr. Pepper can, with the white “Dr. Pepper” logo being cast with diamonds. This is going to be the most incredible trophy in college football (probably the most expensive, too).

Concessions: Dr. Pepper Everything

Any idea where I am going with this? OF COURSE, MORE DR. PEPPER! We’ve got burgers and barbeque all topped with Dr. Pepper BBQ sauce. Burnt ends, pulled pork, smoked sausage links, brisket, you name it. Signature sides include Dr. Pepper-infused smoked BBQ beans and Texas-style french fries or sweet cornbread. Dr. Pepper is the soft drink of choice (obviously), with a spread of cocktail options using it as well. For desserts, we’ve got Dr. Pepper Floats, Blue Bell Dr. Pepper ice cream, and warm cherry cobbler.

Final Thoughts

What is Dr. Pepper waiting for?

I just laid out an entire bowl game for them and I truly hope someone from Dr. Pepper is reading this right now.

Of course, there is always room for improvement. If you can think of any way to improve this bowl game, please let me know.

And if you work for Dr. Pepper, feel free to give me a call, or just message me on Twitter.
