Look: Eastern Michigan Player Sucker Punches South Alabama Player After Bowl Game
While it’s pretty natural for tempers to flare after losing a bowl game, one Eastern Michigan player took things too far in the aftermath of the 68 Ventures Bowl by sucker-punching a member of the South Alabama football team.
The punch started a brawl among both teams during the post-game celebration as South Alabama sang the university’s fight song after taking down Eastern Michigan 59-10.
While the verdict is still out on which member of Eastern Michigan started the scrap, the player that threw the haymaker wore No. 5. With two members on EMU’s roster wearing the number five, the unnamed player was either sophomore tight end Max Reese or senior defensive back Korey Hernandez.
Meanwhile, the player on the receiving end of the punch was South Alabama defensive back Jamarrien Burt.
According to On3’s Nick Kosko, Eastern Michigan head coach Chris Creighton spoke on the brawl saying, “I didn’t see things when they happened. But I definitely saw the intensity of what had just happened. We had a really good, long talk in the locker room afterwards. We want to be first-class all the time, no matter the circumstances, no matter what the scoreboard is, no matter what other factors, people, whatever are involved. And anything short of being first-class is not living up to the standard that we have in Eastern Michigan football.”
While the fight eventually settled between Eastern Michigan and South Alabama, it’s safe to say that the brawl will be one of the biggest headlines of this year’s bowl season.
