Former TCU Transfer Portal Commit Donovan Saunders Flips to Texas A&M
While Sonny Dykes and the TCU Horned Frogs appeared to have landed a bright DB prospect from the transfer portal ahead of 2024 season, Mike Elko and the Texas A&M Aggies blocked that path from becoming a reality.
Former Cal Poly defensive back Donovan Saunders elected to join the Horned Frogs through the transfer portal on December 18th, but after receiving an offer from Texas A&M on Dec. 22nd, Saunders decided to flip his commitment to A&M and head to College Station.
Saunders, a 6-foot-3 sophomore from California, was an impressive player for the Mustangs in 2023. He recorded a total of 16 tackles, three interceptions, and 11 pass breakups in his second season of college football.
Coming out of high school, Saunders was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index. He was also listed as the 115th-ranked player at his position and the 141st-ranked prospect in the state of California.
After making a name for himself with Cal Poly, the California native received offers from Washington, Texas A&M, TCU, Houston, Utah, Illinois, Washington State, and many more.
While the Horned Frogs will now miss out on having Saunders’ impact on the field in Ft. Worth, with this offseason shaping up to include one of the busiest portal cycles in college football history, Sonny Dykes should have some options available for replacement.
