Texas’ Adonai Mitchell Declares For 2024 NFL Draft
Steve Sarkisian and the Texas Longhorns will have to replace both of their top wide receivers in 2024 as junior wideout Adonai Mitchell announced that he will be officially entering his name into the 2024 NFL Draft.
Mitchell spent one season in Austin after transferring in from Georgia and was an immediate boost for the Longhorns passing game. Mitchell started in 13 of 14 games on the year, hauling in 55 receptions for 845 yards (15.4 yards per. reception) and a team-high 11 touchdowns, including a score in his fifth-straight College Football Playoff game.
The Longhorns’ 2023 season came to an end with a 37-31 loss to No. 2 Washington in the Sugar Bowl, dashing their hopes of their first national championship appearance since 2009.
With Mitchell now headed to the next level, Texas is set to lose WR Xavier Worthy, WR Jordan Whittington, TE Ja’Tavion Sanders, RB Jonathon Brooks, and now Mitchell.
Mitchell announced his decision to leave Texas in a written letter to his daughter saying, “Dear Icylinn. You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me and my reason for everything I do. So I’m writing you this letter because I wanted to share some news that’s going to change both of our lives. Today, I’m officially declaring for the NFL Draft.”
“I’m grateful to Coach Sark and all of the University of Texas community for making me feel like a Longhorn for life in such a short time,” Mitchell said. “And to all the Bulldog fans, my amazing coaches, my brothers on the field, the legendary 2021 class – we did that. We made history together. I love all of y’all. Honestly thinking about all the places I’ve been and things I’ve gotten to do is almost overwhelming. I’m just so grateful for it all. And now, I’m most excited about what’s next, for both of us. Love Dad.”
Adonai Mitchell is listed at 6-foot-4, 196 pounds, and has a 4.5-forty time, making him an interesting prospect. He currently projects as a high-second-round pick, and with the hands he’s displayed over the last few seasons, he’s likely to become a big-time receiver at the next level.
