Look: Steve Sarkisian Shoots Down Alabama Rumors
In the aftermath of Nick Saban’s retirement, nearly every fan base in the nation is wondering how the vacancy in Tuscaloosa might affect their team.
Some fan bases don’t have much to worry about, as there doesn’t appear to be another Nick Saban on the Kent State staff some 50 years after the G.O.A.T. got his start there. However, there are other teams with up-and-coming head coaches that are entering their prime, and they’re ripe for the picking when it comes to Alabama.
One such coach is Texas’ Steve Sarkisian, who is fresh off of leading the Longhorns to a 12-2 season that included a Big 12 Championship and the school’s first appearance in the College Football Playoff.
While his odds of taking the job opened up at +3500, Sark’s odds skyrocketed on Thursday, getting all the way to +175 at one point. As rumors started to fly that he could be the heir to the throne in Tuscaloosa, Texas fans sat and waited to see what would happen.
On Friday morning, Sarkisian broke the silence with a simple tweet.
Shortly after, Texas football released a short video with dialogue from Sarkisian that seems to address his future with the Longhorns.
“I came here to win championships,” Sarkisian says in the montage. “That’s the goal. We’re here to chase greatness, to win championships. This is the University of Texas and people are going to want to be part of it.
“It sure is great to be on the 40 acres.”
It appears that Sarkisian might be out of the running at this point, which likely means that the job is down to someone outside of the Big 12’s current framework.
The favorites to land the job at this point are Washington’s Kalen DeBour and Florida State’s Mike Norvell, both of whom led their teams to 12-0 regular seasons and conference championships in 2023.
