Avery Johnson’s Tweet on Dylan Edwards Goes Viral

One of the biggest names yet entered the transfer portal on Tuesday, with Colorado running back Dylan Edwards opting to leave Boulder after one season with the Buffs.

Expected to be one of the biggest cogs in Colorado’s offense this season, Edwards’ entry into the portal comes after Deion Sanders and staff added Ohio State transfer Dallan Hayden this weekend. In two seasons with the Buckeyes, Hayden averaged 5.1 yards per carry on 130 attempts and scored six touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Edwards totaled 520 yards and five touchdowns as a true freshman last season behind the nation’s worst offensive line. Now, it appears he’ll have greener pastures to run in going forward.

Edwards, listed at 5-foot-9, 170 pounds, is the closest thing to Deuce Vaughn that you’ll find in college football right now, with incredible speed and agility and enough versatility to build an offensive around.

Coming out of Derby (Kan.), Edwards was the No. 100 overall recruit and the No. 3 running back in the Class of 2023, according to Rivals. He was also ranked as the top player in the state of Kansas, and one of the other players in contention for that title appears to be looking for a Sunflower State reunion.

Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson took notice that Edwards is set to become available and made sure to let the Kansas native know where he should go next.

A backfield containing Johnson, Edwards, and D.J. Giddens would be electric and absolutely terrifying for Big 12 defensive coordinators. Could we actually see that happen?

There’s more than a decent chance, as Edwards was committed to K-State before flipping to play for Sanders at Colorado. Adding to the intrigue is Edwards’ father, Leon Edwards, who played running back at Kansas State in the early 1990s under Bill Snyder.

He might not have ended up a Wildcat the first time around, but it appears Kansas State will get a second chance at landing the exciting legacy running back before the 2024 season.
