Katie Stewart, Kierston Deal Secure Penultimate Big 12 Softball Weekly Honors
Texas 1B/C Katie Stewart and Oklahoma LHP Kierston Deal were awarded Big 12 honors for Week 12 of the season after standout performances this past weekend.
Stewart, a freshman for the top-ranked Longhorns, was named the Big 12 Player of the Week after leading the league in batting average (.727), hits (8), home runs (3), RBIs (11), total bases (19), on-base percentage (.769) and slugging percentage (1.727) during Week 12.
She helped lead the Longhorns to a 4-0 mark this past week, including a hard-fought series sweep over Iowa State. This is the first time that Stewart has won a weekly Big 12 award this season; however, it’s the seventh time that a Texas underclassman has been selected for the distinction in 2024.
Deal, a sophomore for No. 2 Oklahoma, earned her second consecutive Big 12 Pitcher of the Week honors after a lights-out performance over two appearances last week.
In total, she logged a 0.91 ERA on the week. In Game 2 vs. UCF, Deal went a full 7.0 IP, allowing just two hits and one unearned run in a 2-1 victory for the Sooners. Deal tallied five strikeouts and just one walk in 7.2 IP, allowing just four hits and a .138 batting average to opponents.
