With Week 4 of the college football season officially in the books, the Big 12 Conference announced four players that would be taking home the fourth iteration of the Big 12 Football Weekly Awards for the 2024 season.
Utah’s Micah Bernard took home the title for Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, West Virginia’s Tyrin Bradley Jr. earned DPOW honors, BYU’s Parker Kingston was named Special Teams Player of the Week, and Utah’s Isaac Wilson took home Newcomer of the Week.
Micah Bernard played a massive part in Utah’s win over Oklahoma State in Week 4, which helped the team earn a signature win over Mike Gundy’s squad. The California native posted 25 carries for 182 yards in the matchup, averaging an impressive 7.2 yards per carry on the afternoon. Bernard’s influence on the rushing attack greatly benefited freshman quarterback Isaac Wilson, who stepped in for the injured Cam Rising.
West Virginia linebacker Tyrin Bradley Jr. was instrumental in the Mountaineers’ late comeback win over Kansas. Bradley posted an unreal stat line against the Jayhawks that included seven total tackles, one strip sack, one fumble recovery, and one interception. His two turnovers helped Garrett Greene and the Mountaineers’ offense get back on the field and rally back from an 11-point deficit with less than four minutes remaining.
Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, Isaac Wilson, was one of the names to know heading into Week 4. With much speculation regarding the future health of Cam Rising, Wilson, the younger brother of Broncos quarterback Zach Wilson, stepped in and performed admirably. The freshman signal caller completed 17 passes for 207 yards with a touchdown to interception ratio of 1-2. He also added six carries for 41 yards in the ground game to help secure the win.
One of the biggest special teams performances of the week took place on Saturday night in Provo, Utah, with sophomore Parker Kingston returning an insane punt return for a touchdown. After muffing the ball deep in his own territory, Kingston recovered the ball inside of the 10-yard line and made multiple Kansas State defenders lose their footing. Kingston sprinted to the opposite sideline and left multiple Wildcats in the dust on his way to earning Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
