Which Big 12 Stars Earned Player of the Week Honors?

NCAA Football: Houston at Texas Tech

With Week 6 of the college football season officially in the books, the Big 12 Conference announced five players that would be taking home the sixth iteration of the Big 12 Football Weekly Awards for the 2024 season.

Arizona State’s Cam Skattebo and Texas Tech’s Tahj Brooks split the title of Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, Houston’s A.J. Haulcy earned DPOW honors, Arizona’s Tyler Loop was named Special Teams Player of the Week, and Arizona State’s Sam Leavitt took home Newcomer of the Week.

Splitting the title of Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week was a duo of elite running backs who showed out in Week 6. Arizona State’s Cam Skattebo ran for 182 yards and a touchdown in the Sun Devils 35-31 win over Kansas, while Texas Tech’s Tahj Brooks totaled 128 yards and three touchdowns vs. Arizona. With his impressive performance, Skattebo earned his second title of Player of the Week in 2024, while Brooks earned his first recognition this season.

Houston safety A.J. Haulcy was instrumental in the Cougars’ 30-19 win over TCU on Friday night. Haulcy posted an unreal stat line against the Horned Frogs, including seven total tackles and two interceptions. He is one of only three league members with a multiple-interception game this season and just the second to do it in a Big 12 Conference game.

Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, Sam Leavitt, has continued to impress since earning the starting job in Tempe. Leavitt tossed four touchdown passes and posted 234 yards of total offense on Saturday, including a career-high 77 rushing yards on the ground. The win propelled ASU to 1-1 in conference play, while Kansas fell to 0-3.

One of the biggest special teams performances of the week took place in a loss for the Arizona Wildcats in Week 6 vs. Texas Tech. Blank kicker Tyler Loop connected on five field goals in the X-X loss, becoming the first kicker in Arizona history to make five field goals in a single game. With the big outing, Loop now leads the Big 12 Conference in field goals made in 2024.
