On Sunday, the Arizona State men’s basketball program clashed in an exhibition matchup with Cooper Flagg and the Duke Blue Devils.
The game quickly got out of hand, resulting in a 103-47 loss to Jon Scheyer and company, prompting some candid comments from Bobby Hurley on the loss.
“This happened,” Hurley said. “It’s not like I didn’t play the guys that should’ve been on the floor. I wasn’t experimenting tonight. We got our asses kicked. It was with their All-American best player playing half the game, too. Hats off to where they are, and oh s*** about where we are right now.”
Duke held Arizona State to just 47 points in the contest, limiting Hurley’s squad to 28.1% shooting from the field. The team connected on 25% of their shots from three, while Duke shot well above 50% from both.
“My granddaughter is not going to remember this game,” Hurley continued. “She’s three months old, thank God. It was her first game, so hopefully, there’ll be better days ahead for her. Sometimes, you should leave well enough alone. This is why I’ve never wanted to come back here. I lost two games here or something. We used to do this to everybody. So it was a tough night.”
While Duke may be an ACC powerhouse with one of the nation’s best squads, Arizona State still has a long way to go in order to compete this season in the Big 12. They tip off in their first official game on Tuesday, November 5th, vs. Idaho State at 8:00 p.m. CT.
