The Kansas State Wildcats made it 17-straight wins over Kansas football on Saturday with a dominant 42-17 win. And after the game, K-State offensive lineman Taylor Poitier shared a story claiming Kansas had a meeting with K-State coach Chris Klieman to discuss the possibility of KU fans rushing the field, if the Jayhawks pulled off the win. That story was clearly passed on to K-State players, who took it personally.
Poitier, a Kansas City area native, said, per KAKE news, “I guess they [KU] had a meeting with Coach Klieman saying, ‘Be aware they might rush the field.’ And I was like, ‘Wow, OK. I hope you do rush the field.’ Maybe this will happen for you, but it will never happen. But all they did was rush to their cars because it was raining.”
IF true, KU was likely doing this as a courtesy for Klieman. But, once again, if true, what a stupid decision by the Jayhawks. That is bulletin board material for the Wildcats, and clearly at least Poitier took it that way. He likely wasn’t alone.
KU entered the game as a 3.5-point favorite, jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead thanks to a special teams turnover on the opening kickoff, and then got absolutely rolled the rest of the afternoon in front of the Jayhawks Faithful.
Avery Johnson threw for 231 yards while tallying four total touchdowns, while Kansas State returned a fumble 20 yards for another score as the Cats rolled to a dominant 25-point victory.
“We dominated the football game from start to finish,” Kansas State coach Chris Klieman said. The Wildcats have now won three of their last four games. Their 2-4 start, with four losses by a combined 13 points, feels like a distant memory. The Wildcats are still in the Big 12 race and enter a must-win game against Texas Tech at home next weekend.
