LJ Martin Injured vs. Iowa State; Status Unknown Moving Forward

The BYU Cougars suffered a big loss in Ames on Saturday during their game vs. Iowa State with star running back LJ Martin leaving with an injury. Martin is the heart and soul of this team’s offense, and according to the BYU radio broadcast, Martin’s status is unknown moving forward.

BYU broadcaster Spencer Linton shared this update following the Cougars’ 41-27 win over Iowa State.

The injury to Martin occurred with the Cougars already down 10 points on the road at the end of the first quarter. Martin had the only touchdown for the Cougars up to the point when he left, finishing the day with five carries for 15 yards. On the season, Martin entered the game with 127 carries for 774 yards and four touchdowns.

The Cougars came back to win the game on the road 41-27 behind an incredible performance from true freshman QB Bear Bachmeier, who finished 22/35 for 307 yards, two passing touchdowns, plus 49 rushing yards and one rushing score on the night.

With the win, BYU improves to 8-0 on the season, while Iowa State has now lost three in a row, falling to 5-3 this year. BYU’s bye week comes at the perfect time, while the Cyclones host Arizona State in Week 10.
