Former West Virginia WR Cam Vaughn Dismissed by Miami Ahead of Season

West Virginia Wide Receiver Cam Cook 2026 Season

Just months after leaving West Virginia for Miami, wide receiver Cam Vaughn‘s stint with the Hurricanes has come to an abrupt end.

Miami head coach Mario Cristobal announced Monday that Vaughn has been dismissed from the program, though he declined to provide a reason for the move during his weekly appearance on WQAM Radio in Miami. Cristobal simply said, “Wish him the best.”

The news is notable for West Virginia fans because Vaughn was one of the Mountaineers’ most productive receivers in 2025 before entering the transfer portal. After transferring to Miami in January, he was expected to play a significant role in the Hurricanes’ passing attack and provide a vertical threat for quarterback Carson Beck.

During his lone season in Morgantown, Vaughn emerged as one of WVU’s top playmakers, hauling in 35 receptions for 541 yards and four touchdowns while averaging an impressive 15.5 yards per catch. His departure was viewed as a loss for a West Virginia offense looking to maintain explosive plays on the outside.

Instead, Vaughn never made it to the regular season in Coral Gables. Miami has now dismissed three players during fall camp, with Vaughn becoming the latest casualty as the Hurricanes continue preparations for the 2026 season.

For West Virginia and Big 12 observers, the development serves as another reminder of how quickly circumstances can change in the transfer portal era. Vaughn left Morgantown seeking a new opportunity at a College Football Playoff contender, but his Miami career ends before he ever takes a snap in a Hurricanes uniform.
