West Virginia football released the first concept renderings of its “West Tower” at Milan Puskar Stadium on Friday, and the potential outcome is a big-time upgrade for the school’s 46-year-old football facility.
The new tower, which would face the east stands, would expand from the 30-yard line to the 8-yard line with nearly 75,000 square feet of “usable space,” including a new press box, nine elevators, founders suites, luxury suites, traditional Loge boxes, elevated Loge boxes and club seating.
West Virginia, 4-3 this season and 1-3 in Big 12 play following a 45-42 win at Cincinnati, is currently in its second season with Rich Rodriguez back at the helm of the Mountaineer football team after nearly a full two decades away. This stadium announcement signals further commitment to building around Rodriguez.
This weekend, West Virginia is on the road looking for a second Big 12 win at TCU.
“The new West Tower is a long overdue and necessary investment that will ensure continued growth of WVU Athletics and WVU Football,” West Virginia President Michael Benson said in a release.
“Serving as the ‘front door’ for national networks with improved broadcast capabilities, the West Tower will also provide in-demand premium seating in updated spaces for our fans, who’ve been calling for new options for years, while generating additional revenue. I believe this is a vital project that will allow Milan Puskar Stadium to maintain its standing as a premier sports facility far into the future.”
The original tower, including the current press box structure, is set to be demolished following the end of the 2026 football season. The project is expected to span two-plus years and to be completed before the 2028 home football opener vs. Youngstown State.
