Saturday’s Kansas-TCU game in Fort Worth didn’t exactly draw a packed house.
Just 10 minutes before kickoff at Amon G. Carter Stadium, large sections of the stands remained empty as the Horned Frogs and Jayhawks prepared for their Week 9 Big 12 matchup.
Jamie Plunkett of Horned Frog Blitz shared a photo from inside the stadium shortly before kickoff, and the crowd — or lack thereof — was hard to miss.
Now, to be fair, college football crowds can fill in quickly during the final few minutes before kickoff, especially with fans still tailgating or making their way through the concourse.
But that’s still a pretty jarring photo from just 10 minutes before a Big 12 game.
Perhaps the circumstances shouldn’t make it too surprising.
Kansas and TCU both entered Saturday at 3-4 overall and 1-3 in Big 12 play after disappointing starts to the season. TCU was coming off a 24-20 home loss to West Virginia, while Kansas picked up its first conference victory last weekend with a 25-24 win over Baylor.
The Jayhawks also entered Saturday with some unexpected quarterback drama, as Cole Ballard was named the starter in place of Isaiah Marshall shortly before the game.
Neither team is where it hoped to be entering November, but Saturday’s game remains important for both programs.
At 3-4, the loser will fall to 3-5 and face an uphill battle just to reach bowl eligibility.
Apparently, that wasn’t enough to have Fort Worth buzzing before kickoff.
