As we wrote about this week following Big 12 media days, no one is more at ease with their situation heading into 2017 than Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy. The Cowboys head coach is now in Bristol, CT to make the rounds at ESPN and did his first hit on Thursday night’s edition of SportsCenter.
At Big 12 media days on Tuesday, Gundy was asked about his previous appearance with Barry Melrose where they talked about their respective mullets. The head coach said, “So I often have thought about what you just said, the time on ESPN at 10:00 with Melrose, all the different social media hits that we’ve had. We have a terrific social media and a media relations department at Oklahoma State, and they’re on the cutting edge. They’re thinking all the time. So I think that would be a good subject for marketing majors, graduate students to look into. But I’m going to say that the dollar figure is somewhere in the millions for the amount of time that we’ve had on the air for that.”
Then there wast the kicker from Gundy, adding, “I was very fortunate to get a new contract and should probably get an extension and a raise for that free marketing for the university.”
Well, ESPN’s Kenny Mayne and Mike Gundy began their discussion on SportsCenter Thursday night, when a “surprise” phone call came into Gundy. Guess who it was?
Here are Gundy’s appearances scheduled for Friday on ESPN platforms:
9:25 am: First Take (just watch it for Gundy then immediately turn it off)
3:30 pm: Highly Questionable
4:00 pm: College Football Live
Gundy realizes how to play the game and is continuing to kill it, which is only going to continue to help Oklahoma State Cowboys football.
