Three Questions For Kansas Heading Into Spring Football Practice

NCAA Football: Kansas at Oklahoma

College basketball is heading down the home stretch, college baseball has started, but let’s not forget (I know many of you aren’t) that spring practice is already getting underway across the country. We will handle spring previews for every Big 12 football team and roll them out based on when their respective spring practices begin. Next up are the Kansas Jayhawks who will start up spring practice on Tuesday March 30th. Here are my three questions for Kansas heading into spring ball.

1. Quarterback

The Jayhawks had three quarterbacks play in 2020 between Jalon Daniels, Thomas MacVittie, and Miles Kendrick. Daniels was the guy for most of the season as a true freshman. In 2020, Jalon threw for just a touchdown while completing just 50% of his passes in a struggling offense. Meanwhile Miles Kendrick was more of a runner and MacVittie didn’t do much. However, this will be a good time for Jalon Daniels to get some more reps in the spring before North Texas quarterback transfer Jason Bean arrives in Lawrence in the summer.

2. The Offense

Despite Les Miles being gone, his offensive coordinator he hired is still there. What will the new Mike DeBord offense look like with Emmett Jones as the head coach? There are a ton of questions here for the Jayhawks and losing some key pieces on offense will hurt. Nobody is sure what will happen and who the starters will be, but it will be interesting to see what Kansas does to try and shake things up from an offense that was dead last in just about every category in the Big 12 last season.

3. The Defense

Kansas was young last season on the defensive side of the ball. While they have some young pieces, the whole unit was a disappointment last season. Last year Kanas gave up over 230 rushing yards per game as opposing teams just ran the ball at will. I want to see a tougher defense going into 2021 and some of those young pieces to start playing like veterans sooner rather than later.
