Yet another piece of Oklahoma’s staff has been vultured by Lincoln Riley, the new head coach at USC. Outside Linebackers and Defensive Ends Coach Jamar Cain is expected to Join Lincoln Riley’s staff in LA, per a report from FOX Sports’ Bruce Feldman:
Brent Venables, the new Oklahoma head coach, is expected to name a staff this week, ahead of the early signing period next Wednesday.
Oklahoma was expected to lose a few members from staff, given that Venables will bring in his own guys for certain spots, but Cain was a piece that Oklahoma was hoping to retain. He has been vital in several of Oklahoma’s key recruitments and could prove to be a big loss on the recruiting trail.
He made a large impact on the field as a coach as well, developing some of Oklahoma’s best defenders in the last few years. Cain is responsible for the development of Nik Bonitto, who is projected as a late first-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft.
Oklahoma is expected to pursue Todd Bates, who worked with Venables at Clemson and is one of the nation’s top recruiters. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but nonetheless, the loss of Jamar Cain could prove to be trouble for the Sooners.
