Oklahoma Lands Pair of Commitments from Four-Star Recruits Makari Vickers, Anthony Evans

NCAA Football: Baylor at Oklahoma

Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners continued their impressive recruiting run on Friday as they landed not one, but two commitments from four-star recruits.

One commitment was pretty much locked in as Makari Vickers, a four-star safety from Tallahassee, Florida, has had Crystal Ball prediction from 247’s Steve Wiltfong since August 15th. Vickers is ranked as the No. 6 safety in the 2023 class and the No. 85 overall player in the class.

Vickers was also considering Alabama, but chose Brent Venables and the Sooners as his home for the next three to four years.

The second commitment, which caught many by surprise, was from four-star wide receiver Anthony Evans. In the days following Cale Gundy’s resignation, Evans was trending heavily towards the Georgia Bulldogs, to the point that several of the top analysts in recruiting had him as a UGA lock.

In an 11th-hour flip, Oklahoma sent in the Big Guns, with LD Washington, Brent Venables, and Jeff Lebby working double time to land the talented wideout. In the end, their pitch proved enough to bring Evans back to the Sooners in a massive win for a staff that seemingly gotten whoever they wanted this summer.

Evans is ranked as a four-star wide receiver and the No. 45 player at his position in the 2023 class.

The combination of Evans and Vickers gives Oklahoma the No. 4 recruiting class in the 2023 cycle, jumping them over Ohio State, Georgia, and LSU in the process. Oklahoma is still in the running for several top athletes in this class too, so don’t be surprised if they continue their ascent into the Top 3 before too long.
