Week 10 Big 12 Football Players of the Week Announced

NCAA Football: Cincinnati at Oklahoma State

With Week 10 of the college football season officially in the books, the Big 12 Conference announced five players that would be taking home the 10th iteration of the Big 12 Football Weekly Awards for the 2023 season.

Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon split the title of Offensive Player of the Week with UCF running back RJ Harvey, becoming Gordon’s fourth-straight weekly award. Gordon’s teammate, Xavier Benson took home Defensive Player of the Week honors, while a pair of Longhorns rounded out the list. Texas WR Adonai Mitchell earned Newcomer of the Week honors and was joined by his teammate Bert Auburn as the Special Teams Player of the Week.

Gordon earned his portion of the Offensive Player of the Week title after leading the Cowboys to a 27-24 win over Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon. Gordon was unstoppable in Week 10 producing 156 yards from scrimmage and a pair of touchdowns in the final game of the Bedlam series. Gordon logged 138 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground as he continues his stretch of elite performances in 2023.

UCF running back RJ Harvey earned his first nomination for Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week leading the Knights to their first win in conference play over Cincinnati. Harvey added a fourth consecutive 100-yard rushing game to his season total recording career best in rushing yards (164) and touchdowns (3). Harvey became the first UCF player with four consecutive 100-yard games since Latavius Murray accomplished the feat in 2012.

Oklahoma State defensive back Xavier Benson was all over the field on Saturday, recording a multitude of stats. Benson recorded seven total tackles, a sack, a quarterback hurry, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and three tackles for loss in Saturday’s win over Oklahoma. The senior linebacker became the first Big 12 player to record at least three TFL, a sack, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery in a single game since Texas’ Joseph Ossai in 2020.

Texas wide receiver Adonai Mitchell earned another Newcomer of the Week award in Week 10 catching eight passes for a career-high 149 receiving yards and a score in Texas’ 33-30 win over Kansas State. Mitchell started off hot with three catches for 96 yards in the first quarter and was one of Texas biggest playmakers down the stretch.

The final weekly award winner is Texas kicker Bert Auburn who went 4-4 on field goal kicks and 3-3 on extra point attempts in the Longhorns’ 33-30 win over Kansas State. Auburn connected on field goals from 32, 49, 34 and 42 yards with each kick being a massive moment in the football game. Texas earned the win largely in part to a big day from the special teams unit.
