Texas Coach Rodney Terry to UCF Players After Horns Down: ‘That’s Classless’

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament Midwest Regional- Miami (FL) vs Texas

The Texas Longhorns basketball team blew a 12-point lead in a loss to the UCF Knights on Wednesday night, but rather than be upset with his own performance, head coach Rodney Terry was more concerned with UCF players doing the age-old “Horns Down“.

Here’s the original video of some players flashing their “Horns Down”.

Video surfaced after the loss of Terry reprimanding UCF players in the handshake line following the game, with the UT head coach saying, “That’s classless. Don’t do that sh*t.”

Terry confirmed after the game that he was upset with the “Horns Down” from UCF players, saying in his post-game press conference, “You win the right way and you lose the right way… you don’t go through the handshake line… about 6 or 7 guys putting the horns down. We don’t do that because when you do those kinds of things, it looks very classless. And it looks like you were just hoping to win. We never go into games hoping to win, we expect to win. So we don’t act like that. We expect to win. We don’t jump up and down like we won’t a National Championship… that’s what I was angry about.”

UCF head coach Johnny Dawkins took the high road after the game when he was asked about the handshake line after the game and said, “That’s not the type of program we run.. I know coach Terry. He’s a great man. I have a lot of respect for his program. We are all about having class as a program. I’ll go back and review what happened. And if there’s any action that needs to be taken from my end, I will do that.”

Meantime, Texas is now 1-3 in Big 12 play, tied for 12th place in the conference with West Virginia and just one game ahead of 0-4 Oklahoma State. The Longhorns will try to bounce back on Saturday against No. 9 Baylor.

Prayers up for Coach Terry and the Longhorns that no one does a “Horns Down.
