247Sports Writer Believes Texas Tech Will ‘Make a Splash’ in March Madness
While the Texas Tech Red Raiders are currently tied for first place in the Big 12 Conference after five games in league play, one writer believes that the team is just scratching the surface of what they can become.
247Sports’ Dushawn Longdon wrote an article discussing Grant McCasland’s squad and mentioned, “The Red Raiders are in perfect position to be a team that makes a splash during March.”
“McCasland took over a Texas Tech program that was surrounded with controversy following the resignation of former head coach Mark Adams,” London said. “Despite all the noise around the program, McCasland has managed to help the Red Raiders to a 14-3 record. This showing has been good enough for Texas Tech to crack into the latest AP top-25 poll at the No. 25 spot. There’s still a lot of season left, but McCasland and his Texas Tech squad are in perfect position to be a team that makes a splash during March.”
Grant McCasland has quickly added his name to the list of successful members of the Scott Drew coaching tree joining Kansas State’s Jerome Tang, Wichita State’s Paul Mills, and North Florida’s Matt Driscoll.
The Red Raiders are currently tied for first in the Big 12 with Kansas State, who Texas Tech narrowly took down 60-59 on January 13th. Texas Tech’s resume has been impressive this season, earning wins against No. 21 BYU, Kansas State, Texas, Michigan, and more, but with an upcoming road matchup against No. 11 Oklahoma set for Saturday, January 27th, McCasland’s squad will be put to the test once again.
While the 2024 NCAA Tournament is still the better part of two months away, Texas Tech is currently listed as a 10-seed in Joe Lunardi’s latest bracketology update.
