Pete Thamel on Colorado-North Dakota State Game: ‘Whoever Scheduled that Game Should be Fired’
While the Colorado Buffaloes have built immense offseason hype since Deion Sanders was hired as head coach, many believe that the team could be facing a daunting schedule in 2024.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel spoke on the Buffaloes’ home opener against North Dakota State, an impressive FCS school, and had some strong words for the athletic director who scheduled the Bison to take on CU.
“Well, first of all, they open with North Dakota State, and the Associate Athletic Director who scheduled that game should, yeah, you know, whoever scheduled that game should be fired,” Thamel said on the College Gameday Podcast. “That is just a negligent, horrible athletic department decision. You do not schedule an FCS game you can lose. You just don’t do it.”
The Bison have quickly become the model of consistency at the FCS level, churning out impressive seasons on a yearly basis. In 2023, the Bison finished fourth in their conference with an 11-4 overall record, which concluded with an appearance in the FCS Semifinal game against the Montana Grizzlies.
Thamel finished his thoughts by saying, “Now, North Dakota State might not have been what they were three or four years ago, but they’re still excellent. They are going to be sound, and they are going to have the great still sort of mid-major competitive advantage if we’re talking about college basketball, and that’s continuity. But I just thought that is a game that whoever scheduled that eight years ago or whatever, whoever they are, should be shaking in their boots because that’s going to be very interesting.”
Colorado takes on North Dakota State on Saturday, August 31st, at Folsom Field in Boulder.
