While Gus Malzahn has shown an ability to recruit at the highest level, that has not made him immune to rival programs.
That was the case with three-star offensive lineman Gavin Blanchard, who flipped his commitment from UCF to Clemson on Friday.
Coming out of Wiregrass Ranch in the Class of 2025, Blanchard is listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 889th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 61st-ranked player at his position and the 119th-ranked player in the state of Florida.
Blanchard committed to UCF on June 2nd amid an impressive stretch for Gus Malzahn’s group. Unfortunately, the team has significantly underwhelmed in the 2024 season, which likely contributed to the move. UCF sits in 13th place in the conference with an overall record of 3-5 and a conference record of 1-4.
With the loss of Blanchard, UCF’s Class of 2025 features just three athletes on the offensive line. The three UCF commits include four-star OT Chastan Brown, three-star OT Jaquez Joiner, and three-star IOL Andrew Stargel.
UCF returns to the football field in Week 10 on Saturday, November 2nd, vs. Arizona at 2:30 p.m. CT in Orlando.
