After sustaining an injury in Week 8 vs. Kansas State, West Virginia quarterback Garrett Greene has had a tough time getting healthy.
The Florida native missed several weeks of football in the following weeks, and his status looks to be in question for Week 11 vs. Cincinnati.
Greene enters the Week 11 matchup with a doubtful injury designation and will likely miss the contest against the Bearcats.
“Garrett is still struggling a little bit,” Brown said ahead of the team’s bye week. “I’m sure some of y’all are going to ask about quarterbacks. I wouldn’t waste your time because it’s not worth talking about until he’s healthy, but he’s still struggling.”
While some in the fanbase have been signaling for Nicco Marchiol to start under center consistently, Brown has had the back of his starting quarterback, largely in part to his effectiveness in the first half vs. Kansas State.
In 2024, Greene has recorded 99 completions for 1,352 yards through the air this season, alongside a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 9-8. In addition to being a solid passer, Greene is one of the nation’s elite dual-threat quarterbacks, with 76 carries for 476 yards and three touchdowns.
“He’s so much a better player than the last time he started a game,” Brown said on Nicco Marchiol. “He’s mature, he’s been patient, and he’s gotten better, and I’ve said that a lot. And then he showed that today. He didn’t play very well in the second half of the Kansas State game, which was a tough setting for him. But I thought he really stepped today when we needed him, and I thought he played really well.”
West Virginia takes the field vs. Cincinnati on Saturday, November 9th, at 11:00 a.m. CT on the road.
