The matchup for the 2024 Big 12 Championship wasn’t decided until the very last game of the regular season, and even then, tiebreakers had to be used to separate four teams at the top of the standings.
When BYU’s 30-19 win over Houston went final just before 1:00 a.m. CT, a four-way tie for first place became official, sending Arizona State and Iowa State to the Big 12 title game.
Arizona State destroyed Arizona 49-7, and Iowa State handled business against K-State 29-21, and thanks to extenuating protocols, the Sun Devils and Cyclones got the nod to go to Arlington.
These two teams did not face each other in the regular season, as was the case with most of the top teams in the league, but now we’ll finally get to see the Big 12’s top teams face off for a conference crown and a spot in the College Football Playoff.
By the looks of it, we are in for one heck of a matchup, too, as the 16th-ranked Sun Devils (10-2) and 18th-ranked Cyclones are projected to play a game decided by less than a field goal — and even then Vegas can’t decide who should be favored.
According to Wager Talk, Iowa State opened as a one-point favorite in the matchup, but now finds itself as a 2.5-point underdog as of Monday afternoon.
Additionally, 77% of the total tickets are on Arizona State, meaning the public is leaning heavily toward the Sun Devils, hence the line moving a total of 3.5 points.
The experts seem to be split on the outcome of this game, too, as there are several predictions on both sides of the matchup.
No. 16 Arizona State (10-2) and No. 18 Iowa State (10-2) will play for the 2024 Big 12 Championship on Saturday, December 7, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, with kickoff scheduled for 11:00 a.m. CT on ABC.
