According to a report from Action Network’s Brett McMurphy, Oklahoma State has decided to part ways with offensive coordinator Kasey Dunn and defensive coordinator Bryan Nardo after the Cowboys’ first losing season in two decades.
The 2024 season was the worst of the Mike Gundy era in Stillwater, with the Pokes losing each of their last nine games, including a 52-0 loss to Colorado in Week 14. It was the first time that Oklahoma State had gone winless in conference play since Pat Jones’ final season in 1994.
Dunn, 55, had spent the last 14 years on staff at Oklahoma State, starting as the wide receivers coach in 2011. He was promoted to associate head coach in 2019 and then to offensive coordinator in 2020.
Despite having elite offensive units throughout his tenure as a position coach, Oklahoma State’s offenses were rarely better than average under Dunn, quickly making him a lightning rod for the fan base.
According to McClain Baxley of GoPokes247, Dunn’s offenses never cracked the top 20 in several categories.
“Since taking over as the leader of the Cowboys’ offense, Oklahoma State never was in the Top 20 in the country in scoring offense, total offense, or rushing offense, despite having the Doak Walker Award winner last season. Oklahoma State had the No. 20 passing offense in 2022, averaging 279.5 yards per game.”
Nardo, 38, was far less tenured in Stillwater, and was in just his second season with the program after being hired from Division II Gannon.
After a semi-promising first season, the wheels came off for the OSU defense in 2024, as the gave up 35.6 points per game — the most ever in Cowboys’ history.
Under Nardo, the Cowboys’ defense ranked among the worst units in the country in scoring defense, total defense, rushing defense, passing defense, and third down conversion rate.
The Oklahoma State Board of Regents has scheduled a meeting for Friday and is expected to discuss the next steps of the process at that time.
