After just a few months with the Wisconsin Badgers, former Ball State tight end Tanner Koziol is back in the transfer portal and looking for a new home.
Koziol, a Group of Five All-American last season, was among the most productive players at his position in 2024.
Listed at 6-foot-7, 237 pounds, Koziol is a matchup nightmare and was a major problem for MAC defensive coordinators.
In 2024, he ranked fourth in the country with 7.8 receptions per game and broke Ball State career and single-game records with 94 receptions for 839 yards and eight touchdowns.
When he entered the transfer portal in December, Koziol was immediately one of the hottest names on the market, and eventually, he ended up signing with Wisconsin. Now, after spending a few months with the Badgers, it appears that his next destination could land him in the Big 12.
According to On3’s Pete Nakos and Steve Wiltfong, Koziol is projected to land with the Houston Cougars for 2025, significantly impacting the offensive talent that Willie Fritz is working with.
The Coogs went 4-8 in their first year under Fritz, but were better than most people projected after the roster mess that he inherited.
With Conner Weigman set to take over at quarterback, and a target like Koziol potentially headed in, there’s reason to believe that Houston’s offense could be better in 2025.
If they maintain the level of defense they played last season, a revamped offense could be enough to make them a team that surprises some folks in 2025.
The Cougars will open up the 2025 season against Stephen F. Austin on Thursday, August 28.
