Chris Klieman said it plainly on Monday: Dylan Edwards will again be unavailable this Saturday when the Kansas State Wildcats take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Due to speculation surrounding Edwards’ availability and desire to suit up, Klieman even felt it necessary to turn down rumors of a possible redshirt and transfer situation. “Trust me, Dylan wants to play, but his body’s not there yet,” Klieman said.
It’s a disappointing update for Wildcats fans, because Edwards, a junior tailback who transferred in from Colorado, carried serious upside. He rushed for 546 yards last season (at 7.4 yards per carry) and showed big‑play ability. But health has been a consistent hurdle this time around, and Klieman is clear he’s not willing to rush Edwards back until the body holds up.
Rumors have swirled. Some whispers suggest Edwards could redshirt to preserve eligibility, while others speculate about a portal move. Klieman squashed talk of an active redshirt discussion, saying the team has not sat down to talk redshirting with him. On the transfer front, there’s nothing from K‑State to suggest Edwards is anything but a Wildcat, but the rumors won’t die because anytime a young, talented player is sidelined, it sparks chatter.
In his absence, K-State will look to Joe Jackson, who has been solid in limited moments. Against TCU, Jackson recorded a career high 27 carries for 110 yards, but came back down to Earth last week in a 42-17 blowout win in the Sunflower Showdown.
According to Klieman, Edwards wants to be out there, and his tone leaves no doubt. But he also knows the risk of pushing too soon. For Wildcats fans, the hope is that we’re looking at one last week or two of patience and not the start of a longer‑term absence. If Edwards stays ready, when he returns, he could flip a switch for this offense.
