No. 5 Texas Tech has added more firepower to its future roster, landing one of Division II’s top defensive linemen last season in Amarie Fleming, per On3.
With the Allen Yellow Jackets, the newest Red Raider racked up 13.5 sacks, which was top five in Division II, while also showcasing his versatility with 18 tackles for loss.
His consistent play earned him First Team All-SIAC defensive lineman honors. Fleming also received offers from Arkansas State, Kennesaw State, and others.
Fleming arrives in Lubbock with two years of eligibility remaining and the option to redshirt. He joins a Texas Tech defense that ranks among the nation’s best this season, allowing just 12.3 points per game, the top mark in the Big 12 Conference this season.
Texas Tech has one regular-season game remaining, which is a Saturday showdown with West Virginia. A win would secure an 11-1 finish and put the Red Raiders firmly in position for both a Big 12 Championship Game berth and a College Football Playoff spot.
This season, the Red Raiders have taken down some of the nation’s top teams, including No. 7 BYU and No. 16 Utah. Their lone loss came against Arizona State, a game they played without starting quarterback Behren Morton.
