Colorado just took a tough one to the chest. Star wide receiver Omarion Miller is hitting the portal, and yeah, it’s a big deal.
Miller was one of the only consistent weapons Colorado had all season. He hauled in 45 catches for 808 yards and scored eight touchdowns, which says a lot considering how chaotic that offense looked at times. Despite dealing with a mixture of three different quarterbacks, Miller was finding ways to make something happen.
He’s not just another name heading out the door. This is a dude with legit Power Four production, and the kind of upside that’s going to make him a hot commodity the second he officially hits the portal. Miller finished sixth in the Big 12 this season in receiving yards.
Now, for Colorado, it’s yet another crack in the foundation. Deion Sanders talked all year about wanting players who were fully bought in, and Miller looked like one of them. But even that wasn’t enough to keep him in Boulder. You can say what you want about NIL or playing time or whatever, but if a guy like Miller is bouncing, it says something about the vibe in that locker room right now.
That’s not to say it’s all falling apart, but it’s not exactly holding steady either. Miller leaving puts pressure on the Buffs to find another go-to receiver, and those don’t just fall into your lap. Especially not ones who already have nearly a thousand yards on their college résumé.
As for Miller, he’ll land somewhere good. Maybe even great. He’s still got one year left, and there’s not a coach in the country who wouldn’t take a player like him. He’s going to make someone’s offense a whole lot better next season, and he might not be done getting even better himself.
The portal is chaos, and today it bit Colorado in a big way. We’ll see if Deion and his staff can reload fast, but replacing Omarion Miller is going to be a tall order.
