Lance Leipold and the Kansas Jayhawks have a new quarterback in the fold with the addition of Rice transfer Chase Jenkins.
Jenkins, a 6-foot sophomore from Katy, Texas, spent the previous three seasons with the Owls and is fresh off his most productive season to date.
In 2025, Jenkins recorded 119 completions for 1,025 yards with a touchdown-to-interception ratio of nine to two. He’s also a dynamic playmaker in the rushing attack and posted 151 carries for 531 yards and five scores.
The addition of Jenkins is notable as the Jayhawks have entered a weird spot in the quarterback room. Veteran signal caller Jalon Daniels is out of eligibility, and the rest of the returners in Lawrence are young and inexperienced. While no one is saying that Jenkins will immediately be the guy under center, he’ll make for some great competition with Cole Ballard and Isaiah Marshall.
Coming out of Alief Taylor High School in the Class of 2023, Jenkins was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 1769th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 93rd-ranked signal caller in his class and the 288th-ranked player in the state of Texas. Three seasons later, he sits as a top 1400 player in the transfer portal and the 87th-ranked quarterback available.
