In a somewhat shocking development, former Kansas State Wildcat Dylan Edwards is headed to the other side of the Sunflower Showdown rivalry as a member of the Kansas Jayhawks.
Edwards, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound junior from Derby, Kansas, spent the previous two seasons in Manhattan after starting his career at Colorado.
In 2025, there was a lot of noise regarding Edwards’ status and future. He suffered an early-season injury in Ireland that came after kicking a bench in frustration, which clouded his season with the Wildcats. Edwards was set to be the main guy, but was unable to carry the load, finishing with 34 carries for 205 yards and two scores.
He saw action in just four games, against Iowa State, Arizona, UCF, and Baylor, so he was able to preserve a redshirt. He now heads to Kansas to play for Lance Leipold and the Jayhawks, who are in need of some explosion in the backfield. Edwards has long been considered an interesting personality in the lockerroom which comes with risks, but his ability, when healthy, is unmatched.
Despite his down year in 2025, Edwards is listed as a three-star, Top 200 player in the transfer portal. 247Sports has him listed as the 173rd-ranked player overall and the 11th-ranked running back. With the addition, Kansas has now signed 30 transfer portal players in an effort to get things back on track in 2026.
