After Arizona State lost to Houston on Sunday night 103-73, Sun Devils head coach Bobby Hurley gave his honest assessment of what exactly he’s seen from Houston, when compared to the other Big 12 contenders his team has played so far this season, which includes Arizona and BYU.
Hurley said after the game, “They’re all a little bit different… Arizona tries to overwhelm you with their size around the basketball and the guards attack the basketball… Houston just tires to beat you into submission and make you want to quit or be somewhere else. The intensity they play with is unlike anything I’ve played against this year. All three of those teams on any given day could be in the same conversation of having a chance to win.”
Arizona State is now 1-4 in Big 12 play after Sunday’s loss, with their lone win coming vs. K-State, with losses vs. Houston, Arizona, BYU and Colorado.
Hurley and the Sun Devils are back at it on Wednesday against West Virginia.
Big 12’s Top Tier
Over the weekend, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein said that the Big 12 was “the best conference” in the country, albeit by the slimmest of margins. ESPN announced on Saturday that it would kick off is ESPN College Gameday for basketball next Saturday in Lubbock when Texas Tech hosts Houston. It probably won’t be the show’s only Big 12 visit this season, either.
With Kansas starting to look like the Kansas team we’ve come to expect, the Big 12 may have six teams that have Final Four aspirations with Arizona, Iowa State, BYU, Houston, Texas Tech and the Jayhawks.
