What Bill Self Said After Getting Ejected vs. Arizona State

NCAA Basketball: Kansas at Michigan State

Bill Self was ejected for the second time in his career on Tuesday night in the first half of Kansas’ game against Arizona State. Self’s team went on to lose the game 70-60.

Following the loss, Self said, “That was a pretty temperamental crew tonight. But that didn’t cost us.” Self added, “I wasn’t told anything. They threw me out before they even said anything. But I’d have to watch it. That was probably not a great call. I came out of the box and he gave me a T, which is fine. But Sirmons, by no means did I do anything that deserved a second T. But that’s those guys for you. He told me to get back in the box and I didn’t get back in there quick enough. So that’s on me. But certainly disappointed.”

Self was referencing Doug Sirmons, the official who ejected him. For what it’s worth, Doug Sirmons has been working every night for nearly a month, as was noted by many on social media on Tuesday night.

With the loss, Kansas went 0-2 on its Arizona swing and has now lost three of its last four games with one game left in the regular season on Saturday at home vs. Kansas State.

Kansas’ Loss to Arizona State

Darryn Peterson scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half as the Jayhawks twice rallied from double-digit deficits. Kansas went on a 17-1 run to cut make it a four-point game in the second half, and then trimmed a 12-point deficit to two with four minutes left.

However, ASU’s Anthony Johnson answered with a 3-pointer and a layup, starting an 11-0 run that helped Arizona State hold on for the victory. It is the second ranked win for Arizona State this season, and their 15th win over a ranked opponent during Bobby Hurley’s tenure in Tempe.
