Welcome to Tuesday Takes, where I give you four takes from the Big 12. It was a jam-packed week full of exciting news, but several things caught my attention over the last few days.
The Right Call Was Made with Brendan Sorsby
With Brendan Sorsby heading to the NFL supplemental draft, we can finally close the book on this whole mess that was created. I never thought he should have been playing college football after he got caught, and the endless games that went on over this were absolutely ridiculous. I didn’t like Texas Tech trying to justify him playing, and I didn’t like the legal battle going on with the Big 12.
At the end of the day, his moving on was the best thing not just for the Big 12 and college football, but also for Texas Tech. Now we can move on with our lives and focus on football.
West Virginia Will Bounce Back
Even though they lost to North Carolina on Sunday evening, I still have faith in this West Virginia team to get back on track. The Mountaineers will face Troy on Tuesday afternoon in an elimination game.
The good news is that West Virginia has already beaten Troy once, in the opener last week, and when I compare the two teams from top to bottom, the Mountaineers should be the favorites going in.
Some costly errors were the difference against North Carolina, but I know that West Virginia will beat Troy and get right back on the saddle. Now the bigger question will be: can they beat Carolina twice? I say they can and they will.
Welcome to the Bigs, NiJaree Canady
After a weeklong holdout, former Texas Tech star pitcher NiJaree Canady signed with the Texas Volts of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League. Candy made her first start with the Volts on Sunday and faced a similar foe with former Texas Longhorn Reese Atwood, who is playing for the Carolina Blaze.
Atwood crushed two homers off Candy in an easy 9-1 victory over the Volts. I know NiJaree has a very bright future ahead of her in the pros, but it felt like that was her welcome-to-the-big-time moment on Sunday.
Get Ready for Another Great Season of Hoops
Late last week, the Big 12 revealed each team’s conference opponents for basketball for this upcoming season. Just glancing over some of the matchups, we get a home-and-home between Arizona and Houston, Kansas plays Iowa State twice, and BYU plays two against Arizona as well.
It’s no secret that the Big 12 is the best basketball conference in the country, and I can’t wait until tip-off. Now all we have to do is wait for the dates to come out and we are all set.
