Pat McAfee Blasts University of Utah After College GameDay Visit

NCAA Football: Oklahoma at Texas

Pat McAfee apparently won’t be rushing back to the University of Utah anytime soon.

The ESPN College GameDay star unloaded on Utah during The Pat McAfee Show on Monday, two days after GameDay broadcast from Salt Lake City ahead of the Utes’ 21-13 win over Houston.

“I’ve really enjoyed this college football season. Did not enjoy University of Utah,” McAfee said Monday.

So, what happened?

First, here’s the video:

Pat McAfee Takes Issue With Utah Instagram Post

McAfee’s frustration centered around a video posted by the University of Utah’s official Instagram account before Saturday’s show. The video featured students doing impressions of McAfee, including one who called him “corny” and another who described him as “creepy.”

The post has since been deleted.

McAfee said he wouldn’t have cared if individual students had posted the criticism themselves. His issue was that it came from an account associated with the university just before he was preparing to promote Utah on one of college football’s biggest shows.

“The university puts that out?” McAfee said. “As I’m about to go out and do an infomercial for the place?”

McAfee said the situation left him feeling uncomfortable as he walked in front of thousands of Utah fans for the broadcast.

And apparently, his frustration was already boiling over by the end of Saturday’s show.

McAfee: ‘I’ll Never See You Again, Hopefully’

During the final picks segment, McAfee picked Houston to beat Utah and took another shot at the Utes before signing off.

“Give me Houston coming out of here with a big-time dub and proving that Utah hasn’t had to play anybody yet,” McAfee said.

He then told the crowd, “I’ll never see you again, hopefully.”

Utah ultimately got the last laugh on the field, beating Houston 21-13 to remain unbeaten in Big 12 play.

But McAfee doubled down Monday, saying that if College GameDay returns to Utah in the future, he might conveniently be unavailable.

“I’ll hopefully never go to that place,” McAfee said, before joking that he might have COVID the next time GameDay makes the trip.

For what it’s worth, McAfee still praised Utah’s football team and student section.

But as for another College GameDay trip to Salt Lake City?

It certainly doesn’t sound like McAfee is interested.
