Oklahoma Lands Hawaii Transfer DL Jonah Laulu

Oklahoma has landed another transfer, but this time it’s someone from the islands. Hawaii transfer defensive lineman Jonah Laulu has committed to Oklahoma and will play for the Sooners in 2022.

A native of Las Vegas, Nevada Laulu was only a two-star recruit out of high school. However, he has been one of the most sought-after transfers in the country after three seasons with the Rainbow Warriors.

The Sooners had to beat the likes of Georgia, LSU, Miami, and USC to get the big-bodied defender to Norman. At 6’6″ 280-pounds, Laulu exhibits the frame to become an absolute nightmare for opposing offensive linemen.

In 24 appearances for Hawaii, Laulu racked up 70 tackles, 19 TFLs, and eight sacks. He also had 40 QB pressures in 2021, which ranked 34th among Group of Five pass rushers.

In the month that Brent Venables has been at Oklahoma, the transition to finding quality defensive players has been quite prevalent. It seems as if every other day a defender has flipped or committed to Oklahoma that wouldn’t have been interested beforehand.

Laulu is the fourth veteran transfer to commit to the Sooners in the last four weeks and should be one of several more additions to come via the portal in 2022.
