Deion Sanders Reveals Conversation with TCU RB Trey Sanders While Injured

NCAA Football: Colorado at Texas Christian

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders shared a wholesome moment with TCU running back Trey Sanders during Saturday’s upset win against the Horned Frogs when Sanders showed sportsmanship leaving the Colorado sideline to speak to the injured player while down.

TCU head coach Sonny Dykes joined Deion Sanders at midfield to check on his downed running back, and after receiving an update on Trey Sanders’ health, the two coaches shared a moment of respect shaking hands and cracking jokes to one another.

Coach Prime was recently asked about the conversation and revealed that Sanders was interested in committing to Colorado, but with a consistent history of injuries in college football the Buffs elected to move in a different direction. Deion noted that his love for the junior running back is what brought him out to give some words of encouragement.

“The reason I didn’t take him was because he sustained some significant injuries and Coach Kelly knew about those injuries, and Coach Sal, so we didn’t take him,” Sanders said. “But I still had love for the kid because he wanted to play for us. So, I went out there and I said, ‘Son, now you know if you don’t get up, they ain’t got a chance. So I want you to get your butt up and get back in this game and be dominant like you’ve been.'”

Deion finished the conversation by highlighting the Sanders namesake mentioning, “That’s what I told him. I wanted the kid to be dominant. His last name’s Sanders, first of all, and he was the No. 2 on offense. That’s what the conversation was.”

Trey Sanders eventually returned to the football game and finished his day with 15 carries for 46 yards and three scores on the day, and while the Horned Frogs did come out on the losing end of Saturday’s matchup, they take on Nicholls State on September 9th at 7:00 PM (CT) with a good chance to get back into the win column.
