With transfer portal season officially upon us, college football fans are beginning to witness big names from their favorite teams announce their decision to enter the portal.
According to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Baylor quarterback Blake Shapen is entering the transfer portal with at least one season of eligibility remaining and will be immediately eligible for the 2024 season.
Shapen is a big name to hit the transfer portal and was one of the lone bright spots during the 2023 season in Waco. Shapen finished his junior season off throwing for 2,188 yards and a touchdown to interception ratio of 13-3, while also adding four scores on the ground.
The Louisianna native totaled 479 completions for 5,574 yards in his time at Baylor and boasted a career touchdown to interception ratio of 36-13. While no one said the transfer portal is easy, the loss of Shapen was somewhat expected as Baylor was listed on 247Sports’ Clint Brewster’s list earlier in the week as a team that could face some transfers at the quarterback position.
Baylor will now have a new spot to fill ahead of the 2024 season, but with this offseason shaping up to include one of the busiest portal cycles in college football history, Dave Aranda should have some options available for replacement.
