Neal Brown Comments on Taking ‘Mayo Bath’ After Bowl Win

NCAA Football: James Madison at West Virginia

With Neal Brown and the West Virginia Mountaineers set to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels on December 27th in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, Brown commented on the likelihood of taking a mayo bath following a win over UNC.

While a bath in Duke’s mayonnaise may not be for everyone, the Mountaineers head coach mentioned that he would, “Gladly take the bath for a ninth win.”

The matchup between the Mountaineers and Tar Heels is set for Wednesday, December 27th at 4:30 p.m. central at Bank of America Stadium.

West Virginia is coming off an 8-4 season under Neal Brown after being picked to finish last in the Big 12 Preseason Media Poll. The Mountaineers finished off their 2023 campaign with wins over Texas Tech, TCU, UCF, BYU, Cincinnati, and Baylor en route to bowl eligibility. The teams’ four losses came against Penn State, Houston, Oklahoma State, and Oklahoma.

Meantime, North Carolina is fresh off of a seventh-place finish in the ACC with an overall record of 8-4. The Tar Heels recorded wins against South Carolina, Appalachian State, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Miami, and Duke en route to their date with West Virginia. The trip to the Duke’s Mayo Bowl marks the fifth straight bowl game for North Carolina dating back to the 2019 season.

While the winning coach of the Mayo Bowl will end up covered in Mayonaise, the outcome of the third matchup between these two programs would be a lot better than the previous one.

West Virginia and North Carolina last took the field together in the 2008 Meineke Car Care Bowl where West Virginia narrowly defeated North Carolina 31-30. While we can only hope that the winner of the 2008 Bowl Game wasn’t covered in used auto parts, Mayonaise sounds like a much better alternative.
