Texas RB Jonathon Brooks Remains Undecided About Returning for 2024 Season
While Texas running back Jonathon Brooks’ season came to unfortunate end against TCU in Week 10, he is still listed as the top-ranked running back prospect in the country ahead the 2024 NFL Draft.
Despite having a shot at being an early draft pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the sophomore running back is reportedly on the fence about heading to the next level or returning to Texas in the fall, according to a Monday report from Horns247’s Chip Brown.
Brooks was one of the best backs in the Big 12 Conference this season totaling 187 carries for 1,139 yards and 11 scores in 2023. Brooks was given an 86/100 player rating by NFLDraftBuzz.com and checks in at the No. 1 spot on the list ahead of Florida State’s Trey Benson, Michigan’s Blake Corum, Ohio State’s TreyVeyon Henderson, and more.
While Brooks continues to evaluate his future plans, the Longhorns have a matchup against Washington in the Sugar Bowl on the schedule set for January 1st. Texas turned to freshman running back CJ Baxter to carry the bulk of the load left with the departure of Brooks, who has done some remarkable things with the opportunity.
Coming out of high school, Brooks was listed as a four-star prospect by the 247Sports index as well as the nation’s 354th-ranked prospect. He also checked in as the 24th-ranked player at this position and the 51st-ranked player in the state of Texas.
While the decision for Brooks to either enter the draft or return to Texas is not an easy one, Longhorns fans should have an answer following the Longhorns playoff run in 2023. The Sugar Bowl matchup between Washington and Texas kicks off on Monday, January 1st at 7:45 PM CT.
