BYU Adds Southern Utah OL Transfer Austin Leausa

Kalani Sitake and the BYU Cougars added a solid player on the offensive line to their roster on Monday with the commitment of Southern Utah’s Austin Leasua.

BYU beat out a solid cast of offers for Leausa’s services, including Baylor, Houston, Boise State, USF, Fresno State, Old Dominion, and Tarleton State.

Leausa, a 6-foot-5, 310-pound lineman from Utah, is an experienced player at Southern Utah with double-digit games played under his belt. According to a report from Cougs Daily’s Casey Lundquist, in 2021, Leausa played 325 total snaps per PFF and had a pass-blocking grade of 83.6.

Coming out of West Jordan High School in the Class of 2017, Leausa was listed as a three-star prospect by the On3 Industry Rankings and the nation’s 998th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 85th-ranked player at his position and the 31st-ranked player in the state of Utah.

Leausa has a shot at starting on the offensive line for the Cougars, with the team returning just three starters for TJ Woods’ group. The team will have junior Connor Pay, sophomore Weylin Lapuaho, and junior Brayden Keim back in the starting lineup.

Leausa and the Cougars will play for the first time in 2024 on Saturday, August 31st, against the Southern Illinois Salukis.
