Ahead of the Week 9 matchup vs. Arizona, two members of the West Virginia Mountaineers are doubtful for the game.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported the injuries on Saturday morning, noting that the Mountaineers will likely be without Garrett Greene and Wyatt Milum.
With the team’s best offensive lineman and starting quarterback likely sidelined, the Mountaineers will have to overcome some major adversity.
If Greene is unable to suit up for Neal Brown’s squad, sophomore quarterback Nicco Marchiol is in line to get his second career start. Marchiol has seen the field in back-to-back weeks vs. Oklahoma State and Kansas State in relief of Garrett Greene due to a bad stretch of injuries.
In 2024, Greene has thrown for 1,352 yards and a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 9-8. Marchiol, while not seeing the field consistently, has been solid in his limited snaps under center. The sophomore signal-caller has thrown for 80 yards and a touchdown to interception split of 2-1.
The team enters Week 9 after losing a tough game to No. 16 Kansas State in the midst of a tough stretch for Neal Brown and company. Currently holding a 2-2 record in conference play, the Mountaineers need a big win on the road Saturday.
West Virginia kicks off their game vs. Arizona on Saturday, October 26th, at 6:00 p.m. CT.
