How Can Colorado Make the Big 12 Championship Game?

NCAA Football: Arizona at Colorado

The Colorado Buffaloes lost to the Kansas Jayhawks 37-21 on Saturday afternoon. The loss was a huge blow to CU’s Big 12 Championship chances. But there is still an opportunity for Colorado to end up in Arlington playing for a Big 12 Title during its first season back in the conference.

The good news is that they’re still tied with BYU at 6-2, who also lost on Saturday against Arizona State. The Sun Devils are 6-2 as well.

But Colorado still needs a lot of help to reach the Big 12 Championship Game. They have to beat Oklahoma State on Friday, while also needing Iowa State to lose to Utah on Saturday night or K-State next week, and BYU to lose to Houston next week.

Or, if Colorado beats Oklahoma State and Arizona State loses in Week 14, Colorado would need Iowa State or BYU to lose still to make the title game.

Colorado needs to be one of only two teams in the Big 12 Conference with two conference losses, because the tiebreakers against Iowa State, BYU and Arizona State do not break in their favor.

But first things first, the Buffaloes need to go out and beat Oklahoma State. The good news is that the Cowboys are 3-8 overall and 0-8 in Big 12 play. The Cowboys are trying to avoid going winless in the league play for the first time since Pat Jones’ final season in 1994.
