College football fans waited 11 years for a licensed video game to fill the void left by the offseason blues, but when it finally released in July 2024, it instantly became the thing that everyone was talking about.
CFB25 was regularly the highest trending topic on social media, and the week of its release, screenshots and highlight reels of the game were the only thing that anyone would see on their feed.
While the actual college football season eventually regained headline status, the game itself has overgone several massive updates and tweaks to provide a long-lasting product that fans can enjoy for months after the 2024 season comes to an end.
After setting records with pre-release downloads and first-week sales, EA Sports’ long-awaited brainchild is back in the headlines again — and this time it’s leaving a lasting mark.
According to Insider Gaming, EA Sports College Football 25 has officially become the best-selling sports video game in U.S. History, surpassing NBA 2K21. The game — which has been out for just over five months — has even entered the top 50 best-selling games of all time in dollars.
Even with Call of Duty’s latest entry, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, College Football 25 has maintained best-seller status entering the final days of 2024.
College Football 26 is already well into development, and with the bar set incredibly high by its immediate predecessor, the expectations will be sky-high come Summer 2025.
