The fall of Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 NFL Draft was one of the biggest discussions in the world of sports.
So much so that even United States President Donald Trump chimed in, calling NFL owners and executives foolish for leaving Sanders on the board.
That wouldn’t be the only time those in the white house mentioned Sanders this week, as White House Secretary Karoline Leavitt discussed the topic at a recent press conference.
“After the President’s Truth Social post, the Browns finally took Shedeur Sanders,” one media member stated. “Does the President think he deserves credit for Sanders getting picked, and does he think going to the Browns is better than going undrafted?”
“All I will say is the President put out a statement, and a few rounds later, he was drafted,” Leavitt said. “I think the facts speak for themselves on that one.”
Trump’s initial statement on Sanders came out amid the fall to the fifth round reads, “What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID? Deion Sanders was a great college football player and was even greater in the NFL. He’s also a very good coach, streetwise and smart! Therefore, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has PHENOMENAL GENES and is all set for Greatness. He should be ‘picked’ IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN. Good luck, Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father!”
Ultimately, Sanders was selected in the fifth round by Cleveland with the 144th overall pick. Did Donald Trump play a role in his selection? Maybe not, but having the endorsement of the sitting president of the United States can’t hurt.
